Beautiful silk taffeta jacket from c. 1870s-1880s. Shiny black. Double closure with mother of pearl buttons on the inside and hook & eye closure on the outer layer. Top outer button is hand-carved bone. Jacket is in perfect condition except for the tiny white splash marks shown on certain areas. They may very well come off with gentle cleaning. Beautiful Mid To Late 1800’s Victorian Era Silk Hand Beaded Bodice Mourning Jacket. Hand beaded with beaded fringe detail at the waist, velvet collar and waist trim, and a small crocheted pocket at the waist. Jacket also has lace detail around the collar although it is incomplete. Some tears and small bits of discoloration seen in photos but otherwise structurally in great condition for its age and most of the beading is still intact. Petite XXS Measurements as seen in photos.
Victorian-era black wool cape featuring ornate embroidery and a decorative feather trim.Style and Era: commonly worn in the late 19th century, specifically between the 1880s and 1890s. It features intricate soutache embroidery throughout and a feather collar which continues down the front.
THE EMBROIDERY IS ON THE FRONT, BOTTOM TAILS, THE EXTERIOR OF THE SHORT SLEEVES AS WELL AS THE MIDDLE BACK AND ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BUSTLE BACK REAR. I WOULD REPLACE THE INNER SILK PETERSHAM BELTING AS IT IS WEAK ON THE ENDS.
The shape and detailing also support the date: a cropped, collarless bolero silhouette with slightly puffed sleeves and decorative corded soutache appliqué on the front. Similar construction, fabrics, and motifs are seen in pieces from Bavaria and southern Germany, Austria/Tirol, Switzerland, Hungary, and the Balkan regions, all of which used dark wool, soutache trim, and hand-finished interiors in their folk jackets.
This is a lovely example of mid-Victorian mourning style, with a high neck and long gathered luxurious chantilly lace all around the circle hem. Rows of black glass beads adorn the black silk faille material of the capelette, and a row of beads is partially hidden in the silk ruffle between the top of the cape and the wide black lace.
This is a rare, beautifully structured example of late Victorian tailoring. Its cropped, pointed hemline is characteristic of the mid-to-late 1880s, designed to sit perfectly over a full bustle skirt.

Fabulous paisley patterned jacquard silk mourning capelette has a high ruffle neck with black bead trim and a silk ruffle running around the center with black glass beading on top and black lace below.
In good condition, there is a little bit of beads thread hanging in front There’s no fasteners back has some missing fringe looks like a smaller size. The shoulders measure seam to seam 11.5 inches and then all the way across the shoulder is about 18 inches.
This antique cape is very unusual in the fact it’s in such rare great condition! Made of a dark brown silk velvet with black silk inside liner. The velvet has a silky sheen but it’s thick & cotton feeling.

FASHIONED OF A BLACK SILK FAILLE WITH FEATHERED SILK RIBBON RUFFLING FULLY TRIMMING THE NECKLINE AND FRONT WITH MATCHING TRIM ON THE PLEATED BUSTLE TAIL. DATING TO THE 1880’S. Often for proper fit, hang, and wear ability, pieces will need to be altered and/or adding a hook or snap here or there, with a seam closure or strengthening needed.
The five buttons even though concealed by the front overlap are worked in silk with a checked pattern, with the buttonholes hand stitched and there are wide black ribbons draped from the front as well, making this very likely the mourning coat of a wealthy woman.
