As the century turned so did the style of dresses. This beautiful Edwardian afternoon dress is made of wool crepe in an old rose mauve kind of tone, the fabric is in great shape with only a few areas that have moth holes (see photos).
These flaws aren’t super noticeable when wearing the bodice tho. For being silk the fabric is holding up great, with no fraying or shattering that I could find. All hooks, eyes, and buttons are present!
Beautifully hand crafted roughly around 1880s. Victorian negligee’s are rarely found in such great shape with minimal fraying to the lace (see photos). This particular piece was once a Chantilly shawl that the original owner smartly made into a negligee.
But aside from its remarkable colors, it also has FOUR POCKETS! 🤣 Back to the dress. The dressmaker gave the bodice a small hidden pocket for a watch or trinket on the leftside. The bodice has a false jacket with 2 more small pockets a lustrous brocade trim; 12 mother of pearl shank closure buttons and 18 decorative mother of pearl sequin buttons on the bustle of the bodice.
Lets start with the skirt (my favorite part!). this skirt has a sewn in under skirt with reinforced dust ruffle, it has an adjustable bustle band that is sewn onto the underskirt. The waistband is in great condition with its button, hooks & eye’s all present.
