This is a double breasted vest of the Late Victorian or Early Edwardian era. It has been in storage for 30 years. It is made of wool and is in excellent shape. I used this vest occasionally when dressed well as part of an Old West Living History group.
I believe this was constructed from bombazine, a silky, heavier fabric. The only distractions are the pink velvet ribbons and bows. They appear a little bedraggled but should be easy to remove, freshen or replace.
This is an amazing ladies top! Authentic and in pretty good shape considering the age! I put the measurements in the details for you. I think this is for a small teen or large child. It buttons and hooks and laces! There is a small tail in the back. The sleeves have beads and bows. The ruffle in the front is awesome! The ribbon ties into a bow. There are straps at the waist that I am confused about. They have hooks on the ends. It is probably to hook your top to your skirt to keep it from crawling up. All hand stitched.
Silk Tafetta, Cream Lace, Polished Cotton. Condition: Overall GOOD-FAIR preowned condition. This piece only has a few age related issues – with the most notable issue being a few tears of the silk tafetta by the elbow of one arm + a small tear on the shoulder.
Has heavy wear and blemishes. There is an opening in at least one of the beaded areas since it is losing beads when handled. I have it inside of a bag right now to keep the beads together. All of the beads I found before have also been put into a separate bag. There’s a spot on the back side that has an orange hue. There’s a couple holes in the outer layer of the fabric. Lots of stray strings. A dark spot on the right side of the orange area below the neck towards the top. Also general wear. Please view all photos. I included as many as the listing would allow.
