DATING TO THE EDWARDIAN ERA. THIS PIECE IS IN 18TH CENTURY STYLING AND IS FASHIONED OF A THICK PINK FLORAL BROCADE COTTON FABRIC WITH THE UNDER SKIRT, FRONT PANEL AND SLEEVES IN A SILK SATIN. EMBROIDERED LACE WITH A MUSLIN GROUND TRIMS THE NECKLINE, BOTTOM CUFFS, AND IN TWO ROWS ON THE SKIRTING.
The shape and detailing also support the date: a cropped, collarless bolero silhouette with slightly puffed sleeves and decorative corded soutache appliqué on the front. Similar construction, fabrics, and motifs are seen in pieces from Bavaria and southern Germany, Austria/Tirol, Switzerland, Hungary, and the Balkan regions, all of which used dark wool, soutache trim, and hand-finished interiors in their folk jackets.
Pieces like this were used for modesty, warmth, or to refresh an existing gown with a fashionable layered look. It was very well kept. There are a few stains in the inside of the jacket but nothing on the outside of the jacket.
The skirt features a ruffled, pintucked hem with lace inserted above and below pintucked border, and a unique « yin/yang » embroidered design on ruffle. Made in the United States, this original piece exudes the classic Edwardian style with its delicate sheer cotton material and feminine silhouette.
This is a gorgeous rayon and lace dress. It has short lace, flutter sleeves, a V-neck front and is fully adorned with ivory colored lace, faux pearls and sequins. Hidden back zipper and no stretch. Skirt has a front slit and the dress measures approximately 47 1/2 inches in length. The dress has shoulder pads that could easily be removed. Please see the last photo with a small stain on the back which has not been treated. Skirt is lined in a silky acetate.
