Sadly, the sleeves are just a bit short on my 5’9″ self. B 40, L 38, fits a women’s M. Very wearable with a super cool mod style. Totally a Penny Lane style look – no your usual mink. (The fox coat with the spiral sleeves will be posted separately – I had no idea I was allergic to fox and my heart is broken!)

Brown Wool Peplum Suit Jacket This vintage Hattie Carnegie 28 Shop Marshall Field & Co. brown wool peplum suit jacket dates from the late 1940s. It is made of a brown fine twilled cloth woven wool fabric done in a heathered effect. This tailored stylish suit jacket has a peplum skirted style, with a Peter Pan collar notched button hole, slight shoulder padding, long sleeves with rolled cuffs, asymmetrical pleat pockets, embroidered fabric covered button closures down the front, is fully lined in a brown silk fabric with a « Hattie Carnegie » designer label, « 28 Shop Marshall Field & Company » department store label and an « NYG » union label sewn inside. The jacket measures 21 inches long, with a 36 inch chest, 26 inch waist, 19 inch long sleeves and a 15 inch back. It is in good condition, with only a few tiny holes on the silk lining inside. Beautiful 1950s Hattie Carnegie dress: Very well-made and tailored, dress is made from a black, soft thick silk or mostly silk blend, short angled sleeves, fitted bodice with a decorative tie triangle near the front and back neckline, fitted waist, full A-line skirt with sewn in tulle under the skirt, zipper back.
This exquisite vintage set from Hattie Carnegie features a stunning navy blue strapless dress with a peplum jacket. The dress is made of 100% silk and is adorned with iridescent beading that adds a touch of shimmer and glamour. The jacket is the perfect complement to the dress, with a waist-cinching peplum design. The dress and jacket are both from the 1940s and are original pieces, not reproductions. The dress has a chest size of 30″ a waist size of 25″ and 36” hips, while the jacket has a chest size of 34″ and a waist size of 28″. The dress has an under arm-to-hem length of 35.5″ and the jacket has a shoulder-to-shoulder width of 17″, 19” sleeves (with a 2.5” fold up) and a length of 23.5″ from the shoulders to the hem. This set is perfect for a special occasion or a vintage lover's collection. The dress has some mild fading, mostly around the waist in the front (see photo #1). There are also several small faint spots. Neither the fading nor the spots are very noticeable due to the shimmery fabric of the dress. Otherwise, the dress is in very good condition. The jacket however, has some major issues, mostly on the shoulders. As can be seen in photos #7-8, the silk lining is discolored and shattered on both shoulders. As can be seen in photo #9, the silk on one shoulder is faded and shattered. In photo #10, the other shoulder is also faded, and beginning to shatter. There is also some fading on the sleeves. Otherwise, the rest of the jacket is in very good condition.
The color is creamy white and the style is classic and elegant. The blouse buttons in the front, has a collar that can be worn open or closed, two front flap pockets and an extra button sewn inside the bottom front.

There are pockets in the front at hip height. There is no size label but the measurements correspond to a size 6 and it was too small for our size 8 mannequin. The condition is excellent. Overall pretty good condition on this stunning gown that is two separate pieces, a top over a long striking gown. The top has a bust measurement of 40 inches with a 35 inch waist and underarm top hem measures 11 inches. The dress has a bust measurement of up to 37 inches. The waist on dress measures 26 inches and 47.5 inch length underarm to hem Some discoloration under the arm area of blouse only, dress just has an age spots on bodice and back of straps that is obviously covered by the top. Make sure to look at photos carefully:) Also an abrasion area on bust of the top. The underarm discoloration gets somewhat lost in the busy print. Fabric is probably some type of satin blend
I had it dry-cleaned but it still has a couple of marks on the skirt. Material is possibly silk faille, but I am not an expert on fabrics. It has a corded belt that can be tied in the front or back, and small shoulder pads.
