A black dress is the home base from where we all depart but where it takes you and how you get there is open to interpretation. Donald Brooks will take basic black and add a deep V neckline and slightly Empire waist but punctuate it with a woven satin 4.75″ wide cummerbund in bright rainbow hues, tying in the back with three long black ribbons. Synthetic black matte crepe has some give but is not « stretchy ».Echoed at each hidden snap wrist with little rainbow overlaps, you could wear basically any color shoe and it would be right. Bust measures 36″, waist 26″, shoulder to shoulder 15.5″, outer sleeve 24″ and length 55″. Both pieces are in gorgeous condition. If there are any questions, please do not hesitatw to let me know. Love this 1990s era Betsey Johnson dress! Belonged to my Mom, but I stole it by the late 1990s claiming it was too sexy for her! Not punk label era Betsey, but still made in the USA quality. 10.5″ length of stretch cotton bodice at side (rest of the length is sheer cotton skirt).
Personally owned Vintage 1980’s Punk Label Betsy Johnson Black and purple Iris collection Dress with matching opera length gloves. Strapless V pointed top with boning and flowy sheer chiffon skirt. Original punk label made in USA SZ 4/6. Has some fading due to age, otherwise in perfect condition. Was once a 3 piece set but I do not have the pants. Proud to say that I myself once rocked this dress(lol, many moons ago). (See last photo).
We have another Betsy Johnson Alley Cat label maxi Dress! It follows the body from shoulder to hem with a subtly flared skirt. The neckline features a deep scoop neck cut by the original owner, very much a product of the DIY culture of the punk scene that defined the era.
