A striking antique original 1890’s Victorian traveling suit. It is made of forest green wool. The jacket has a wide collar, front insert and sleeve cuffs that are all made of forest green velvet. The jacket is lined with cotton and has a front hook and eye closure.
This is an amazing Victorian accessory from the 1890’s and is called a caplet. It is made of a plush velvet. It is lined in a burgundy taffeta which I believe to have been a replacement for the original lining. It was very well done. The dress form I have it on has 15 inch shoulders but this was created in a style where anyone could wear it. It is 85 inches around the bottom. From the front neck to the hem is 10 inches. There are threads around the edges so there was most likely beads, fringe, lace or fur sewn all around the bottom and the front. It is sturdy and wearable. It does have a museum tag sewn in at the neckline. It would be great for exhibition, reenactment, a Haloween party or even the Opera.
Beautiful victorian bodice. Person I bought it from dated it as 1890s. Made from gold silk material with leg of mutton puff sleeves. Has “plastic” boning on the interior. The most unique part about this piece is that it comes with a matching victorian mourning pin. The pin has a photo of the original owner of this blouse wearing the blouse!!!! In used condition. The pits of the blouse have some staining and a little shattering. Tops of the sleeves each have a rip. Sold as is Would best fit an XS. A beautiful handmade reproduction. The fabric has a subtle basketweave texture. High collar and the gathered front that nicely hides the hook & eye closure. These alternate to make securing less confusing.
The fur trim is very frayed and is totally missing in places. It might be curly lamb. The inside lining is cotton and there is an inner pocket. It is missing part of the front neck closure. It would make a great witches accessory for your Haloween party.
