AS IS Stunning & unusual bright red velveteen gown from the 1960s, neo-Victorian or neo-Edwardian in style, an unlined, long caftan or chemise dress in the softest cotton velveteen, with a lined yoke beneath which the velveteen is smocked with elastic, echoed in the full sleeves, gathered at the wrist. There’s a free-floating placket with delicate filigree-look buttons (I believe they’re metal), centered with white-color rhinestones. Per the label, “miss Continental by Ned Gould”, size 6, & an old dry cleaning label attached to the label with a staple. (See photos) The velveteen is in amazing shape; very little crumpling and no staining that I could see; the color is less orange-y than in the photos (a little more blue tone), a very bright and eyecatching red. Super-soft to the touch. You can’t get cotton velveteen this fine; for the fabric alone it’s worth it! The only flaws I can see are:1. that the elastic smocking in the chest area & the shoulders has lost its stretch; if you pull on the fabric, you can hear the crackling, although it’s holding together so far. It could be replaced (I have attached a photo so you or your tailor can see the construction).2. It appears the original owner took the hem up by about 2 inches, and the back hem has started to come loose. I have listed the length for both, since it would be very simple to restitch the hem to the shorter length, or to let down the rest of the hem if you need a little more length. This is a gorgeous vintage gown, ready for someone to wear for the holidays, or to fashion into a new dress or craft! I will wrap it carefully, to minimize the folds.
