Description An absolutely adorable 1950’s party dress in a combination of baby blue and smoky ivory chiffon. The style typifies the 50’s – oh so feminine and figure flattering – with a bust enhancing bodice – perfect to accentuate the waistline. There are three layers to the skirt – an ivory satin acetate lining, followed by a single layer of white tulle to give the skirt extra body, topped by a floating layer of ivory chiffon. No maker’s label, but vintage size and union tags confirm this dress was professionally made. No fabric contents label, but this likely a synthetic blend. Note the special details on this lovely dress – flattering scoop neckline, double strand satin spaghetti straps, form fitting chiffon bodice decorated with aurora borealis sequins, ruched baby blue chiffon cummerbund, and twirling full skirt. The dress is photographed using a crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included. The dress closes down the centre back with a hidden metal zipper. The entire dress is lined in ivory acetate. Vintage size label indicates 8, but please see measurements below for proper fit. This is definitely not a modern size 8. Size 8 was one of the smallest sizes produced in the 1950’s. This is an extra small size, which would best fit a modern size 0 or 2. No stains or tears and underarms are clean. The sequin decoration appears intact. I suspect the dark ivory chiffon skirt with a slightly greyish cast was originally a brighter colour, which has darkened over the decades.
