This vintage 1960s Jamaica embroidered strapless dress is a stunning addition to any wardrobe. The red cotton fabric is beautifully embroidered, and the dress has a unique ethnic/peasant look that is perfect for casual occasions. The dress is a size 12 with a bust size of 40 and a waist size of 36. It has a hip size of 50+ and a shoulder to hem length of 11″. I am assuming this was a tourist piece. The construction of the dress and the embroidery is in excellent condition for the age. The elastic at the top of the bus has no return, it does not have any stretch or return left. Two layers with ruffle on each. Nylon type material. Elastic waistband approx 14” laid flat. Approx 20” from waist to hem. Good freshly washed condition.
White remains bright; ruffles are crisp and full.
No maker’s label but these were often made by Vanity Fair and other lingerie lines. The torch was passed. My mother also wore lots of Bonnie Cashin in the 1960s and 1970s so I was aware of the modern minimalists, and sought them out for her when I found them.
The fabric has a little shine to it, see photo. General wear but no issues noted.
