This cape is in good condition with only minor age related wear. It is sturdy and could be worn. It does have a hook and eye that would clasp it together but I am not sure what you do with the long streamers in the front. From the neckline of the cape in back to the bottom of the fringe is 17 inches. I measured the top and bottom of the cape including the front streamers. The top is 52 inches around and the bottom is 72 inches long. I wonder if the streamers are suppose to tie in some way. It came with an 1860’s dress I purchased. The dress is not part of the sale.

Beautiful Mid To Late 1800’s Victorian Era Silk Hand Beaded Bodice Mourning Jacket. Hand beaded with beaded fringe detail at the waist, velvet collar and waist trim, and a small crocheted pocket at the waist. Jacket also has lace detail around the collar although it is incomplete. Incredible authentic 1800s two-piece ensemble made from black and white hounds tooth wall with periwinkle blue and tape silk window pane overlay and black crocheted appliqués. The bodice has incredible sleeves, silk bows at the wrists and neckline and boning throughout the blouse. All hooks and eyes are attached and original. There are no designer names or store labels anywhere. The original skirt is also included although unfortunately it does have holes throughout. Sadly the largest one is of course in the center front and measures approximately 2 inches wide. The closure in the back of the skirt is hooks and eyes and there is an interesting construction that creates a bustled effect. Gorgeous and stately, this white cotton plaid weave summer dress dates to the 1880s and is made in the bustle style, with long front ‘tails’ and short back ones designed to poof out over a tournure bustle. The jacket has a built in interior buttoning bodice as well, and the skirt has the traditional cartridge pleats in back to accommodate a bustle, with a slight train. The skirt is complete except for needing a button and buttonhole to close it on the side. There are ruffle trims on both the skirt and the jacket. This stunning white two piece set may never have been worn, given the incomplete waist closure! Very petite at 30-32 bust and 24 waist, the skirting is long at 38 inches in front. The jacket measures 34 inches long from the shoulders to the front tails, and 22 inches long in back. The sole flaw, pictured in the final photo, is a small brown mark which looks a bit like a burn mark on the skirt. Really a special set!
